Today we spent most of the day exploring Saumur, a historic town on the Loire. We parked up next to the Loire, on a large carpark in the centre of the town, and had our usual lunch of French bread, cheese and salad. We walked up to the castle in the afternoon, checked out the local coffee and then drove on to the clos de chateliers, which is a vineyard where you can stop for “free”, providing you taste some wines. The wines were to Nia’s taste, and we now have a few bottle stowed away. The vineyard was fantastic, remote and quiet, our only neighbour a hen harrier hunting quietly over the vines.
Well it was quiet until Penny spotted a naughty hare sunbathing by the motorhome and tore after it, in full cry, with Colin not far behind. It was never in any danger. Fast but not food.
We barbecued some chicken for tea; washed down with the local vino.
