Day 2 of the great Jennings retirement trip. We left Claybottom at 2pm yesterday after a frenzy of cleaning by the SO (sassy one) and travelled down the M6 in the teeth of a Force 9 gale, or so it felt. Its great to leave for your holidays when its really bad weather. We were taking my father back to Wales, where he lives with my sister Kate in a cottage memorably entitled Ger y Felin , for the first leg of the trip. Conversation was a little difficult over the wind/road noise; you know its time to give up when senior ears pick up Dostoyevsky as whisky. Perhaps it was wishful thinking.
We are also travelling in the company of Colin and Penny, our border terriers, the hairy co-pilots. Its 6am and the HCP's are sleeping soundly, Colin using Miss P as a pillow, as he always does. They have already had a nice walk thank you very much. Miss Penelope felt the need to wake me at 5 am for a walk around the grounds.. Sadly Kate's rabbis had been locked up for the night and were not available to chase. Well I had meant to type rabbits but sometimes you just have to leave typos……the thought of our little dogs, who are not of any particular religious persuasion, chasing Rabbi's around the garden… an unusual little vignette for the minds eye…. and then wondering why Kate would have locked up her Rabbi's, and why she acquired them in the first place…isn't it odd how the mind wanders once you're retired.
