Chaudefonds sur Layon

Saturday 28th  May

Neufchatel en Bray to the Loire Valley

The Sassy one demanded Sun so we today we drove 350 km or so down to the Loire valley, mid France. Colin tells us he has a sore paw so it was a good day to travel. We drove mainly on the peage; these are French toll roads, which are good for long journeys.

The project to slim down Colin, which started well, has had a bit of a setback with Colin’s injury, as not only is he now exercising less, but I spotted the SO today feeding him morsels of baguette and best Normandy Camembert. Each morsel, it must be said, carefully buttered before the Camembert was applied. Colin didn’t seem to mind.

We are encamped in a small municipal campsite in the village of Challefonds sur Layon which is idyllic. It is well hidden and there is only one other occupant. We are pitched a few metres from the Layon; a tributary of the Loire, looking out over trees and fields. The clouds and wind have not found their way here and we barbecued in the hot evening sun. Afterwards we rolled up to the village café, to introduce ourselves. Jean-Luc, the only local with a few words of English, took it upon himself to entertain us and by the end of the evening we seemed to have met most of the village, children included, and had been bought much (too much) local vino.

The local server seems to be rejecting my images; not at all dodgy, so not sure why. I will try again later.
