Sunday 29th May
Chaudefronds sur Layon. The local legs.
I thought Colin was belching a lot in the night but woke up to discover a smattering of green spotty frogs in the river, burping away happily; not sure whether this was to attract a partner for the night (don’t try this at home) or proclaim real estate ownership. They were keeping themselves well hidden, as you would if you were a frog with nice legs in France.
We cycled along the Layon to Challones sur Loire, Colin riding shotgun in the dogcart, and attracting much interest and admiration from fellow travellers. We met a guy on a bike, who replied to our “bonjour” with “Hello?”; how on earth did he know? He had been cycling to Turkey but had split off from his mates and changed destination to the Loire. He was a 50-60 km a day man; that’ll be us in a week or two. He recommended Saumur and Chinon, two villages on the Loire, which we’ll take in on our trip down to meet some friends in the Dordogne.
